It is known for its rich biodiversity and archaeological importance, as fossils of ancient primates have been found in the area.
The island is home to the Suba community, which keeps their traditions and language alive. The local economy is mainly based on fishing and agriculture, although it faces challenges such as overfishing and deforestation.
